I. Arts Policy Statements
TOM TRESSER'S WORK IN ARTS ORGANIZING & POLITICS
For a number of years I was the volunteer organizer and president of Greater Chicago Citizens for the Arts, a political action membership organization. Here are cultural policy statements I wrote or co-wrote for candidates and organizations.
Rosemary
Mulligan, spoke at GCCA's rally at Club Lower Links in
May, 1991. Elected to the Illinois State Assembly from the
65th District in 1992 and currently in her sixth term.
Tom
speaks at a fundraiser to support Carol Moseley-Braun in the
1992 Democratic Primary. State Rep. (now Congressperson) Jan
Schakowsky stands in for Carol.
Lisa
Kotin performed part of her piece, "Temporary Girl," at
the October 1993 benefit for GCCA, "By the Sweat of Our Brows
-- Chicago Artist's Lives and Livelihoods."
Poet
and arts developer, Michael
Warr, read at the GCCA organized Arts Town Meeting for
newly elected Congressman Luis Gutierrez in July, 1993 at
the Chopin Theater.
